MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT: INTOXICATED DRIVER STOPPED FOR SPEEDING, FIREARMS IN VEHICLE
The Merrill Police Department responded to seven incidents during the week ending August 2nd. Officers conducted approximately 42 traffic stops and 96 security checks.
Officers completed a traffic stop of a vehicle that was speeding on Saturday. The officers learned that the driver was intoxicated while interacting with them during the stop. They also found firearms inside the vehicle. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Other activity included search warrant activity at a local residence where numerous items of evidence were seized, and two instances of theft – one of those including a juvenile who has been referred to Lincoln County Social Services. A hit and run incident in Marathon County was referred to the Department for follow up. A local gas station reported a gas skip, and a local resident who had reported chickens on the loose was then issued a warning for having too many chickens on their property.
